Iran: 22 May 2024:  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday to convey condolences following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of late President Ebrahim Raisi and his companions.

Raisi’s helicopter went down in foggy conditions on Sunday, while en route to Tabriz from an event near the Azerbaijani border. A widespread search and rescue operation, involving assistance from Turkey, Russia, and the European Union, ensued. Raisi's passing was confirmed by Iranian state television early Monday.

Iran's military credited domestically manufactured drones with playing a pivotal role in locating the crash site.

During his discussion with Ayatollah Khamenei following the funeral proceedings, PM Shehbaz emphasized Raisi's visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to his nation and people. He recalled Raisi's recent visit to Pakistan, underscoring his significant contributions to fortifying bilateral ties between Pakistan and Iran.

PM Shehbaz expressed solidarity with the Iranian people during this challenging time in their history, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the two nations.
