Blast: 3 killed, 7 injured in Mardan bomb blast

KPK: 5 July 2024: Three people were killed and seven others injured in an explosion on Thursday in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Mardan district, according to police officials. The blast occurred when an explosive device planted on a bridge in the Takhtbhai Jalala area was triggered.

Pakistan has witnessed a notable increase in terror-related incidents nationwide, particularly since the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) resumed targeting security forces after breaking a truce with the government in November 2022.

Responding to the escalating terrorist attacks, the Apex Committee of National Action Plan recently launched Operation Azm-e-Istehkam (Resolve for Stability) to combat terrorism and extremism.

District Police Officer (DPO) Zahoor Barbar Afridi informed media that the explosion occurred as a police vehicle was crossing the bridge. "A rickshaw passing on the bridge was also caught in the blast, resulting in three fatalities and injuring seven others, including two policemen," Afridi stated.

Rescue 1122 confirmed that one of the deceased initially survived the blast but later succumbed to injuries during treatment.

Superintendent of Police Saddar Circle, Khalid Khan, disclosed to that unidentified terrorists had planted the device near the bridge and detonated it as the police vehicle passed.

He added that a significant police presence had been deployed to the site, initiating a search operation, while rescue teams transported the injured to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Takhtbhai.

DPO Afridi further affirmed that a search operation for suspects was ongoing, noting that the explosion was triggered remotely.

Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry issued a statement on social media platform X, condemning the attack and extending condolences to the victims. "Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemns the explosion near Takhtbhai Jalala," the tweet read.

The Interior Minister expressed sorrow over the loss of life and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured, the post added.
