LADAKH: 25.09.2025: At least five people were killed and dozens injured in Indian-Occupied Ladakh’s capital, Leh, as protests demanding statehood and greater autonomy turned violent.
Demonstrators set fire to a police vehicle and the BJP office, prompting police to use tear gas and batons.
The unrest followed activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike calling for constitutional protections for tribal communities. Ladakh remains under direct federal rule since 2019, with locals frustrated over unfulfilled promises of self-governance.
The authorities have banned large gatherings to prevent further clashes.
