Palestine: 16 Jan 2024: After a Hamas attack on October 7, Israel imposed a siege on the Gaza Strip. Western allies supported Israel's bombardment, leading to global protests.

Nearly 90% of Gaza's population was displaced, with 1% killed, and 60% of houses flattened. In November, a seven-day truce resulted in the release of 105 hostages and 240 Palestinian prisoners.

Jake Sullivan, the U.S. National Security Advisor, stated at the World Economic Forum that the U.S. seeks de-escalation in the Middle East, despite its strikes in Yemen.

The U.S. aims to prevent the Gaza crisis from escalating further and is working with regional partners toward that goal. Sullivan emphasized the need for vigilance against potential escalation.
