South Africa: 29 October 2023: South Africa pulled off an exciting one-wicket victory on Friday, edging over Pakistan's late surge to advance to the World Cup semi-finals.
With Aiden Markram hitting a strong 91, South Africa was on track to easily chase a 271-run total at 206-4. But it was up to Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, the final duo, to hit 11 runs off of just 11 balls.
After fast bowler Haris Rauf was called off with eight overs remaining, Maharaj hit spinner Mohammad Nawaz to the square-leg boundary to seal the victory in 47.2 overs, setting off loud celebrations in his team's dressing room. Shamsi had survived a leg-before challenge.
