USA and Pakistan are on the best phase of the time.

Islamabad: 30 June 2024: In Washington, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Horst commended Masood Khan, Pakistan's ambassador to the United States, for his efforts in fostering closer ties between Islamabad and Washington.

"At this farewell dinner, on behalf of the State Department, I want to emphasize that the relationship between the US and Pakistan is currently at its strongest point in years, largely thanks to Ambassador Masood Khan's dedicated representation and his work to build bridges between Islamabad and Washington," Horst stated.

The event, attended by officials from the State Department and the Department of Defense, was organized to recognize Khan's service. Acknowledging the inevitable challenges in any long-standing relationship, the US official noted, "Despite occasional friction, Ambassador Khan has provided us with a framework for constructive dialogue."

Having served as Pakistan's top diplomat in the US since February 2022, Khan will step down from his prestigious role next Monday, with his deputy assuming envoy duties following his departure from Washington. The seasoned diplomat was nominated for the position by then-Prime Minister Imran Khan in November 2021.

Now, Additional Foreign Secretary (Middle East and SIFC) Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has been appointed as the new envoy to the United States. In praising Masood Khan for his role in bolstering Pakistan-US ties, the State Department official highlighted the newfound stability and broadening of the relationship between both countries, unprecedented in many years.

"We've initiated new dialogues and explored new avenues for trade," she remarked, noting mutual cooperation on issues such as health, energy, and climate—topics not discussed for quite some time.

"All of this progress is a testament to your exceptional representation of the Pakistani people and government, Masood. Your integrity, creativity, and hospitality have been exemplary," she continued. "You've hosted memorable lunches for officials from the US government and Capitol Hill at your dining room table. Your effectiveness has been remarkable, and it's thanks to your efforts that we now enjoy this strengthened relationship."
