A new government initiative to link companies to power plants

The caretaker government said on Friday that raising gas prices "across the board" ahead of winter was necessary to limit the gas-sector circular debt expanding at a rate of Rs350 billion per year, despite ongoing statewide protests against bloated electricity bills during peak summers.

The administration stated that it also intended to revive an economy that has been in decline for months as a result of onerous import controls.
