Another consignment of Green Line buses arrives in Karachi

KARACHI: 21, OCTOBER, 2021: The second consignment of 40 Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) buses from China arrived in Karachi on yesterday night.
A ship carrying the second consignment of 40 Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) buses reached Karachi Port, bringing the total number of new buses to 80.
The Green Line is just one component of ‘Karachi Breeze’ — a project that comprises four more bus lines and promises a comprehensive transport solution in the city.
On the other hand, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Thursday announced that second consignment of 40 Green Line buses has reached Karachi.
In a tweet, the minister said that "80 buses for the Green Line have arrived so far and all preparations are on time regarding start of commercial operation."
On October 4, test run of the Green Line BRT began on 23-km route (Surjani Town to Numaish Chowrangi) after the PTI-led federal government launched its trial operation.
The test run would continue for at least one month before the launch of its commercial operation (opening for the public at large) in November.
According to details, the city's Green Line BRT project with intersections is 24 km long which includes 12.7 km elevated, 10.9 km at grade, and 422 meters underground, and has 25 stations.
The phase-II common corridor from Gurumandir up to Municipal Park with a length of 2.5 km has two underpasses at M.A Jinnah Road. The state-of-art underground bus terminal with a parking facility and the commercial mezzanine floor was also constructed at Numaish intersection.
The construction work on Phase-I of the project was started in 2016.
Earlier, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail said "I am hopeful this service will be available to Karachiites within a month and a half after a few minor jobs are completed," adding that, "This project has been completed at a cost of Rs35 billion."
"It's a world class project which has all the qualities and services to offer which you see in any developed country. Those who are frequent visitors to London suggest that the Metro Service of London has the same design of stations and services. This project is a reflection of the PM’s efforts for the development of Karachi and its people." (04)
